MOKENA, HE | The Teamsters Local 710 Negotiation Committee for YRC and Holland Clerical Workers reached a strong preliminary agreement last week, accompanied by a full recommendation from the union committee. The 53 office workers are subject to a white paper agreement separate from the National Master Freight Agreement, ratified last year. Pension Fund Progress – YRC Worldwide announced last month [June] an agreement with the Central States, Southeast and Southwest Areas Pension Fund (“Central States”), the largest multi-employer defined benefit pension fund in the company`s International Brotherhood of Teamsters (“IBT”), known for obtaining certain corporate real estate as collateral instead of second-quarter pension contributions for an $83 million deferral. Since the announcement, seven additional funds have joined the same agreement for a reprieve of $11 million. The company is continuing discussions with its remaining IBT pension funds with several employers. The union`s bargaining committee said on the Teamsters` website that it had reached a preliminary tentative agreement with YRC Freight, New Penn and Holland subsidiaries. The Committee granted an extension of the current agreement until May 31 to allow both sides to finalize the language and other issues and to allow ratification votes for ordinary union members. On YRCW`s side, the company said it had indeed “entered into a preliminary agreement with the management of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) to amend the terms of the current employment contract for its employees covered by the National Master Freight Agreement. The proposed amendments are intended to reduce the company`s cost structure and preserve working capital. Local 710 managed to eliminate the company`s proposal for a two-tier wage system, won the national wage package (the previously rejected agreement contained a lower wage package than the national one) retroactively to April 1, 2019, and secured the language of the contract itself in favor of a “Red Circle” agreement that would protect the bargaining unit in the event of a third party being set up. as HNRY Logistics….
